Re: Interfacing With Ethernet
Hi Andy
I am currently developing my own Ethernet interface for micro controller
'stuff' on the real world side. Once I have this (a wee time yet) I will
then be able to bolt on functionality. I am struggling at the moment to
solder a 100 pin chip without screwing it up. Two destroyed so far - two
more to go before I have to get some more ;-(( The main problem is no
soldermask on the home made PCB. I would get the PCB made 'properly' if I
knew it actually worked but at about 50 quid it would be an expensive
mistake if it didn't work.
However, this is maybe not the quickest or cheapest answer for you. I also
have a couple of Xport devices sitting unopened on my desk. I could let
you have one or both of these if you like. Mail me off list if you're
interested. They are very impressive but read the specs to make sure they
will do what you want. Here is a starting point -

I have most of the goodies needed to interface these to 5 volt controllers
(note they a 3.3 volt and not 5v tolerant) and loads more documentation
and software.

Subject: [ukha_d] Interfacing With Ethernet
Whilst chatting in the pub last night, I came up with a good idea (they
always seem good in the pub, eh?). Basically, some simple logic based on
events on a network. Now, normally I'd use a serial>ethernet converter,
but
this project really needs to be far cheaper to be viable. Is there any
way
to interface with a PCI/ISA/PCMCIA ethernet card simply from a cheap
microcontroller? Anyone ever attempted it? Any other cheap solutions?
Probably clutching at straws here :-/
Cheers,
Andy
