Sounds like the type of thing I'm looking for.

As far as xPL (and xAP) are concerned it would just need to be able to send
a UDP packets out on a given port number and rely any UDP packets on that
port number back to the connected device.

The main form factor I think would be a building block to a micro
controller like a PIC so the pic could send the ethernet block a serial
message and receive back a serial message for incoming messages. Any idea
of how big the device would be or the componet cost?
