Gee, you would have to be a rocket scientist to solve that one.

Fortunately, Ed Cheung is a rocket scientist, and worked this all
out a few years back. Collecting $20K in the process. What a bloke.

I reckon it would be not that hard to update his design for PCMCIA
cards, as ISA cards are probably getting a bit hard to come by, and
PCMCIA ethernet cards seem quite cheap. I did some work a while
back interfacing PCMCIA, and IIRC you can run these cards in "8 bit
mode" allowing easy interfacing to a simple micro.

As for the card - something like a Linksys EC2T, which is
conveniently NE2000 compatible?

Heres adding a CF to a PIC:

Other options:

The Zilog ez80 - z80 plus ethernet core, need to add rom/ram, use a
PSD?: http://www.zilog.com/products/family.asp?fam=218

Rabbit core board with a carrier board?

This thing? http://www.ipsil.com/products/d8930.htm

And finally, free software: http://www.dunkels.com/adam/uip

And finally finally, a caution, any solution not involving something
that already has a MAC address will require OUI registration,
expensive.
