Certainly, as long as the VFD is RS232 voltage tolerant, ie 15v not
5V TTL.  If thats a problem then as its high into low it cn be fixed
with a about 3 components, or (sledgehammer to crack a nut) a RS232
receiver chip.

Over my time in the city, I must have installed hundreds of channels
of terminal server ports from many manufacturers in many densities,
and they are just great problem solvers.

Printers, terminals (boting), LED wallboards (twenty foot long by a
foot tall - yep thats a lot of LEDs), access control systems, serial
broadcast, long line replacement, yada yada yada.

The only trick which is hard is replacing a point to point line.
You need terminal servers that setup and maintain their own
connection, or can use UDP.
