The "spring loaded grippy things" aren't exactly the best speaker
terminations that there are but you can get a larger contact area by
nippin=

the end of the cores in a set of molegrips to flatten it a little...

...the screw down terminals will nip the copper core enough to make a good
contact.

As for T&E being less flexible, yes, true, but how often do you
actually
need to move your speakers once they're installed? My plan for the "AV
room=

in the garage whenever it was going to get done was to use 2.5mm T&E
for th=

"fixed" wiring between wall mounted speaker plates and then
flexible cables
from the plates to the speakers.
