You don't actually need webstart.
As long as the drivers are installed just download OneWireViewer.jar and
OneWireAPI.jar from http://www.ibutton.com/software/1wire/
then start it using

java -cp "OneWireViewer.jar;OneWireAPI.jar" OneWireViewer

see the help files included in the API download

Hi Steve,

I've now downloaded the APIs and seem to have run into a problem with
OneWireViewer.jnlp
I've tracked this down to Java Web Start, but the Windows version is a
large
download.

I'm running XP Pro, should the 1wire s/w just run, or do I need to install
more stuff ?

Thanks,

Tim.

Windows) is for other adaptors (does it matter ?)

If you use the latest windows API software you just need to set the default
adaptor to be the usb adaptor and then all software works ok. Essentially
the 1-wire api's just bind to the adaptor defined as the default 1-wire
adaptor.

As for software there are plenty of example on the www.ibutton.com site and
you can use the xPL 1 wire program (
http://www.gadgetshed.co.uk/index.asp?pg=8210
) to send temperature xPL
messages for both DS1820 and iButton temp sensors, I believe xAP have
soemthing similar.
