Cat5e Patch Panel Wiring.

Starting to sort out the dozens of cables in my node-0, I've come up
against
a slight problem.
All my co-ax has been done with F connectors, DIY patch panel includes
splitters/combiners, FM and VHF/UHF amplifier no problems.
All my alarm and telecoms done no problems.
Cat5e. Now this is where I'm confused.
Having bought two second-hand patch panels, I want to use them in the
network
scheme. However, there are no colour diagrams to help me connect them. The
old cat? is still on them, or at least 10-12 inches is, and obviously I can
see the colours used. BUT, I don't know if they have been wired in a
standard
fashion. I can meter the connections through, but (after a long preamble)
what I need to know is - when wiring a patch panel, is there a one-to-one
pin
layout with the wall sockets such that pin 1 on the socket is the same as
pin
1 on the panel, and so on up until pin 8? If it is, then great, its gonna
be
a doddle. If it isn't, how do I find out what the pinout should be, having
no
instructions?
The 'net is pretty sparse about panel wiring, but for RJ45 plugs, it's
great.

If it stands still, I'll keep it..
If I want it, it's up there somewhere...
If I've not yet used it, it's not been kept long enough...
