Hi,
I=92ve been thinking=85 (and if you chat to me on IRC you=92ll probably
kno=
w
the kind of thing that=92s coming!!)
You know those 2 way radio type things you can pick up for about =A330 now
that have a =913km=92 range? Why not use these for short range remote home
control? Obviously to some people even if you had a 3km range it may not
be much good, but I live right in the center of town so *should* be able
to use this kinda system from the station, or the shops, or wherever!
(N18AF on maplins)
At a basic level you could put the audio feed from the home server into
a transceiver, use something to pulse the push to talk button and then
=91announce=92 all alerts over the system=85 then you could feed the
receiv=
er
into the voice control system to control the home remotely=85 like turn
the lighs on from the station, or fire up the kettle, start the video,
query the home for temperature and missed calls and doorbells, you know
the kinda things you can do..
Then there is the obvious problem of security, and I was thinking of
using some kinda of pulse signal, then a eavesdropper wouldn=92t be able
to relate to the functions it performs, etc.etc.
Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts, or had done anything
similar.. the SWMBO is away for a few months soon, so now is the prime
time to squeeze in all the projects I want to do!=20=20
Thanks again for your time!
Alistair
