First, before the flame fest starts, let's just be clear that we're
talking about independently developed applications here, not the xAP
specification, which is in the public domain, as it absolutely should
be, and has no licence attached to it whatsoever (but is jointly
copyright). Anyone is free to implement, modify, extend or even eat
the spec with their salad if they choose.
Now that's sorted out, to answer the original question: Because I
didn't want too :-)
I wanted to retain greater control over how the code that I developed
in my own time, using my own tools/equipment, is distributed than is
afforded from GPL. Specifically I wanted to reserve the right to
prevent people using my work for direct commercial gain. Notice,
that's "reserve the right" - not _necessarily_ prohibit.
