The site www.powerstream.com provides information on maximum current
for power transmission and chassis wiring (See section on wire gauge
and current limits). These figures are supposed to be very conservative.

There is some more information on ePanorama.net
(www.epanorama.net/documents/wiring/wire_resistance.html)

I used these two sites to work out the maximum current for CAT5 - see
my older post from 25/8/04 on Low voltage / CAT5
