I agree, a DVD Recorder would be best, but I already had one in my PC, so a
30 quid cable seemed better value and means I can edit the video before
burning.

There is no easy way, unlike TiVo, as Mr Murdoch doesn't want anyone
tampering with the boxes.
You can use the approach David took but I find dumping direct to a DVD
recorder then doing what I wish with the recording is best and simple.
