RE: [Wanted] Cat 5 Tester

In my last job we used a cable tester costing a couple of hundred, for
the life of me I cannot think of the name, but they produce a lot of
high quality test equipment, black and yellow casing if I remember
rightly..

It would tell is which pair was broken (for example) or which individual
wire was not terminated, it would also tell us the length of the cable.
Also listed any stray protocols on the network. Then it would also be
able to test the speed of the cable and what was at the end of it
(switch/hub/pc)

Very useful piece of kit indeed.

But that was all very useful in a large manufacturing site, not sure how
useful it would be for home use (unless you're going to plan on doing a
lot of cat5/6 cable installation)

Jonathan.

Hi,

What are the benefits of paying more than 99p ? I guess they start
testing
bandwidth ? Quality of electrical connection (resistance/impedence) that

sort of thing ?

Chris
