OK I'm gona wade on in....

This whole is issue of a "simple user interface" is a real
bugbear of mine.
I took the early decision to centralise ALL my audio and video.
BUT, then that leads to the issue of control in each room.
I think probably one of the best decisions we took was to install a Xantech
IR distro system with IR receivers in every room. Which is aesthetically
very pleasing.
Personally I don't feel that a TV in every room is particularly an interior
design "problem" these days. Granted we have wall mounted a LCD
TV's in each
room (Plasma in the lounge) and for me the only real missing link in my
system is a "all round", "simple" interface for
streamed/distro'd video and
audio. For me a TV interface is really the best method.
But then its controlling that.....
I've decided that currently Pronto's via IR is the way for me. Its simple,
it works! Perfecting the screen designs and macro's though for total SWMBO
satisfaction though is still ongoing!
I know I've said it before but to me the missing link here is really a
decent TV output for HTPC's. Both Xlobby and Medio are excellent in terms
on
simple usability and Meedio using a streamzap remote is just as easy as
Tivo
in terms of operation. BUT, when the TV output is poo it ruins the whole
thing!
As for a "single" devise for "all" media types....well
I'm not so sure. The
concept of having separates for specific tasks is a long standing one in
the
world of Hi-Fi. Tivo does TV and it does it well so why not leave it alone?
I know this then brings the need for AV switching so I guess that is a
valid
issue.
Ah I could ramble on for hours! Gona shut up now!

Cheers

Rob

Many thanks,

Rob
