OK - pretty much *ANY* display can be properly calibrated given the right
kit, skills and knowledge of the devices service menus. (A Gamma curve is
just the graph of how bright a pixel is for the value that the source
component tells it to be ... It doesn't have to be linear - and usually
isn't.)

I have an aquaintance (we know each other and talk / swap emails etc.) up
i=
n
Scotland who has the kit and the ability to do this - his name is Gordon
Fraser and he's put a bit of a writeup on what calibration is and what it
sorts out here - http://www.convergent-av.co.uk/calibration.html
- saves me
typing up a paraphrased version of it.

It's not a cheap service - about =A3500 + travelling expenses last time I
spoke with him - but the results are quite astounding. I'm quite seriously
considering getting him to come and calibrate my new 32" LCD.

There are various "home setup" DVDs and such like but to do the
job properl=
y
really requires some serious kit ... I think the software and colour
analysing hardware for the ISF course that Gordon went on was =A35k and
the=
n
there was getting his arse out to the US for the course itself.

And - shhhhh - I know notheeeng....
