TomTomGo Update.

There was some discussion last June/July about TomTomGo SatNav product and
a
review by Patrick so this may be of interest....
Had an email from TomTom this morning regarding the new software version so
popped along to the TomTom website (http://tinyurl.com/4b7wu), downloaded
installed it. Also downloaded the UK speed camera database from
http://tinyurl.com/3rrcf .
Installation of the update was slick enough, following the instructions
from
TomTom, although I did have to delete some unused voice files to make room
on the Card for the update file. TTG booted up with the new software and
that was that.
There were no real instructions for installing the UK Camera POI files so I
just copied the .pov and .bmp files across to the UK Map folder on TomTomGo
and re-booted. Sure enough, the POI files were found and installed.
Interestingly, these new POI were already selected to be shown on the map
by
default but I did have to switch on the global "Show POI"
setting. Finally,
I tracked down the option to display a warning when close to a POI an set
warnings (visual and sound) for the three Camera Database categories.
Thankfully, the POI warning is not a global setting but allows you to set
distance, sound as well as whether to only warn you if the POI is on your
current route, for each POI category within TTG.
Took the unit for a quick drive-by some cameras and they were indeed
identified and there is a count-down as you approach the POI. What I did
notice is that my default setting of 100yards warning probably needs to be
nearer 250 or 500 yards.
So far then I am "Well Chuffed (TM)".
Enough rambling on.... If you had looked at TTG but were put off by the
lack of third party POI files, etc., it is time to look again. Personally,
I do not regret going down the integrated product route, rather than the
PPC, Navigator, GPS, .... route, as the package works well.
