Chris,
Up to 3000va can be plugged directly in to a 13 amp socket. 4000va
to 6000va must be wired in to the 30amp fused supply. Above 6000va
requires a higher amperage supply.
Suitable mains cable should be used to power the UPS. At least 13amp
cable for 3000va. Though the standard power leads for 3000va UPSs
are rated at 16amps.
I once saw a 5000va UPS wired with 5amp mains cable. ;-)
'Ideally' UPSs should be run at half load or less to prolong the life
time of the electronics and to give a reasonable runtime.
