I also recommend the NEC, although I haven't found any 16x media yet.

I can't comment on the Sony, but have been very pleased with the NEC
3500A bought from SVP recently (www.blankdiscshop.co.uk). The NEC is a
little cheaper than the Sony as well (at both SVP and ebuyer).
The Pioneer DVR-108 also gets good reviews - at SVP it is just a
little more than the Sony from ebuyer.
