Question about Bit Torrents

I've got BitTorrent downloading nicely, and would like to use it send
largish files to a small group of friends.

I've googled, and looked at several torrent sites, but haven't managed to
find a newbie user guide to setting up your own torrents - I guess I'm
using
the wrong keywords :-S

Does anyone know of any friendly newbie guides to creating torrents and in
particular not publishing them to a Warez type site but rather to a closed
group distributing the files via email.
