Frank,
=20
Hadn=92t noticed the LED controller, must be new since I was last on the
site.
=20
As regards input to girder, anything really!
=20
I=92ve got a VIOM to take contact closures from bog standard light
switches, also IR via a USB UIRT and FirM of course and I=92m running
meedio housebot alongside it to provide nice user interfaces on touch
screens, PDAs, etc.

Cheers

Hi James

Thats quite a nifty little device he has...Also had a lookat
his
24 led dmx controller.....
What input device are you using to get Girder to respond with lighting
commands ???

I'm using this chap HYPERLINK
"HYPERLINK
"http://www.cinetix.de/interface/english/usdmxgen.htm"http://www.cinetix
.de/interface/english/usdmxgen.htm"HYPERLINK
"http://www.cinetix"http://www.cinetix
.de/interface/english/usdmxgen.htm for my DMX interface. A very tidy
little unit that simply responds to ascii strings that can be generated
by pretty much anything, I'm using girder.

How are you controlling your dimmers ??? xPL has a plugin for the
Milfords
512dmx controller

I find it quite ridiculous, given the cost of the cbus dimmers, to have
to then hang an mcb of every channel. Surely they should be robust
enough to suffer a bulb blowing (which as frank says, an mcb aint going
to be quick enough to protect anyway). As for being able to isolate
individual circuits, no disrespect, but on the odd occasion that you
need to fiddle with a completed installation, just throw the breaker to
the whole bloody lot.

Nothing against the whole ethos of cbus, but when you're paying 350gbp +
vat for 4x2a dimmer, you'd expect it to be little more grown up when it
comes to installation.

Anyway, just my 2d's worth on return from the pub so I'll leave it at
that.

BTW I'm fully wired with anytronics 4x5a DMX racks and very happy at a
fraction of the cbus cost (and no extra mcbs!).

That's all
James

It is the recommended practice by Clipsal UK to have MCBs on the output
channels as well as inputs. We have just installed 2 x 8-channel C-Bus
dimmers and a 12-channel relay unit in our new office cabin with all
output channels protected by MCBs. It may or may not be too slow to
react
to a fault on the load but the ability to isolate individual output
channels at a flick of a switch, in my opinion, is worth the relatively
modest outlay.
