LOL, they were rubbish weren't they - they just looked like fat blokes in
rubber suits.
Back when the original Dr Who was on, we used to marvel at it and now look
back realising how crap the effects were.
With this new Dr.Who, we know NOW how crap the effects are :(

Also, I don't think they really know what audience they are pitching for.
One minute it's a bit dark (ie returning a year later, Rose's mum trying to
find her, everyone thinking the boyfriend murdered her) and the next minute
we have silly blokes in rubber suits who, as you say the next minute are
sleek, nasty CGI monsters.
The hour it is on suggests it's pitched at youngish kids but some of the
"darker" stuff is perhaps unsuitable.

Christopher Ecc is great as the Dr though (what a b'stard for telling Rose
to basically sod off to tea with mum or come with him - heartless git!) and
there are some superb comic moments (b/friend stopping to take photo with
his camera phone) but it IS a bit of a disappointment really.

I guess, now we are grown up, we kind of expect a more grown up Dr Who,
whereas the BBC are trying (faithfully) to recapture the naff costumes,
naff
acting, and naff storylines of the original :(

Cheers,

T.
