Re: EIB

My two euros worth....

(Vested interest to declare: we import Vantage)

Anyone thought of the Vantage route. Happy to provide more gen, but
basically 2 wire bus with client interface equally Touch Screen friendly or
keypads and contacts etc. Not just lighting: a lot of good solid HA
capability. And scaleable.

Not designed for DIY installation though, but we do have a programme to
recruit a small number of professional installers.

Professional installers can benefit from 3 days factory training at our
cost - you need to deal with getting to Belgium and 2 nights accommodation
only.

Sorry if this is too much of a blatant plug. Best contact off group for
anything more as I certainly don't want to abuse group privileges.

Alan.

Prices here:

So no it's not cheap, but it is available. At least now there's proper
USB support instead of RS232-only (not every USB-RS232 adaptor worked
with it either)

Why doesn't it get discussed?
My guess is that the installed base within the group is very low. IIRC
David Buckley has installed some in the past and one, maybe two others
have. Coupled with the cost of the software and the lack of "training
course" benefits comparable to the Cbus course, I think EIB has fallen
out of favour. I don't think there were any technical/functional issues
though.

There's a fair bit in the archives which would refresh your memory with
some of the opinions involved :-)

FWIW I think it's a good system, very competent and extremely expandable
(think Canary Wharf and Jubilee line extension) but maybe it suffers
from that too, in that it's a large system scaling down, rather than a
small one scaling up.

Anyway, just my 2 Euro :-)
