I made a pair out of some hardware cloth (1/4" wire screen) and
cardboard.
Worked great for adding coverage.  I spent about USD$3 in parts and about
an
hour's time.

But if your access point has a way to support replacing it's antennae you
may want to just get 'real ones' instead.
