Re: Paging Comfort CWI Gurus...

Paul

Thanks for the pointer on Neospeech. I hadn't heard of it before,
nor the point on AT&T NV taking a while to reload. I checked out
the samples and the american english was not particularly
heavy/unpleasant. As it was also much cheaper, I've gone ahead and
bought/downloaded (over last night). It will probably take until
the weekend before I can properly play.

(I'll probably then have to tap you in due course for how you have
arranged the TTS into whole house audio etc.)

Had you tried VNC too? If not, it might be worth you trying. I
found it a bit slower that RD but not enough to be irritatingly so.
It's also multi-platform. As an aside, there is apparently a Pocket
PC version. This has been recomended to me for sailing purposes
(race navigation) where you can have a pocket pc in the cockpit
VNCed to the main pc below. I haven't tried it yet but it did occur
to me that there might be similar HA applications (limitation being
that, probably, you can only have the one client). Might be good
where there is no native pocket pc client or web i/f.

messing up TTS). It is quicker than PCAnywhere though.

better than AT&T NV but load up quicker (NV has a bad habit of
taking up to 30sec on my server to re-load and initialise after a
few hours inactivity) - not good for real time use.

voices on their own (NV and Neospeech) and download them! The only
place I've found that does this. Their support was quite good too.
The Neospeech voices are just US ATM - but they did say they're
working on a UK voice.
