smartkontrols rad valves will only work with smart as they are 2 wire
devices using lonworks. They are however extremely good although very
expensive. Basically the room stat also smartkontrols send control
demands to the valve which then proportionately opens and closes like
the german valves in the previous post. This will stop overshoot of
setpoint for the room and maintains setpoint nicely, however to make
this all work best you need there boiler module as control demands
for heat plant are sent from the room stats back to here. This is
where the clevr bit happens. If done right your heating will be a
variable temp circuit where a 3 port valve will mix return water with
flow water from the boiler. This is controlled based on external
temperature. So where its 15 deg outside your variable temp will be
around 40 deg C. This way when a room demands heat the output from
the radiator will be controlled to satisfy and maintain that room
proportionately. I rate smartkontrols as I install it but clients are
few and far between due to its high price BUT! I have it at home or
did have as we are soon to move and its coming with me and would
never install anything else. I dont have the rad stats but did a
large house with around 40 rad stats and the client was over the
moon, I would love to look further into the logistics of boiler
management and PID control from a mathematical sense as I know this
country has very little PROPER heating control.
I do believe the actuators are honeywell and if you get the maths
right you could simulate something like smart do but to get the best
out of this you need the boiler management also. Lots more to it than
just switching on and off boiler pump etc!
If you just need to switch a rad on and off then look at honeywell
valves or some underfloor heating valves.
