8p is a lot - is that one of the "no standing charge" tariffs
that are more
expensive for the first few hundred units?
You should be able to get that down to around 5.5p (and 2.5p for nighttime
if you have economy 7) by switching supplier.

In fact, everyone should switch - the most expensive supplier is always the
one that was the original supplier before competition came along (they rely
on customer inertia to keep their prices high)

I'm paying 0.08036 GBP per unit/kWh  (i.e. 8p) plus VAT (which is only 5%
on
electricity).  Which gives me a monthly bill of around £120.  :-(
