Thanks Kevin, I guess I'm after something simple that works, that way I
get no grief ;-) Although the Roku looks better imo I think the
squeezebox is going to be the better option. I'll trawl some of the
forums to see what they say as well.

Although the Roku units do indeed work on the SlimServer software
that is not the software most people would use with them. Roku have more

inbuilt intelligence and some of their own tricks. Also occasionally
later builds of SlimServerstop working with Roku units, possibly
intentional ;-)   You need to be a bit wary of what features are
available with what server software on each platform. The Roku site does

a pretty good job of comparing the solutions  as do a few posts on both
the Slim and Roku forums.  iTunes integration is different and UPnP plus

some file formats.  Basically Slim Server transcodes a few file formats
that teh Roku unit handles natively.  The reverse can happen though that

SlimServer can transcode a format to mp3 that Roku doesnt., for example
Real Audio which 'can' be done on Slim but IIRC cant be done on Roku.
Be also wary on DRM if you purchase from iTunes or other stores.   The
excellent Rhapsody service is I believe directly integrated into Roku
but implemented as a (currently broken) plugin for Slim  Using
SlimServer one each I suspect the same plugins will work on both units
but not any 'graphic' support.
