Unterminated speaker cable

  • Subject: Unterminated speaker cable

Hi all,

I'm back on the group after a couple of years away - I see not much has
changed (witness the threads on measuring snowfall, and the free coffee
machine!) Anyway, I'm getting back on track with my home automation
projects with a bit more time and money to do what I want, so I'd be
grateful for any help I can get here.

We're just finishing off our new kitchen extension and as part of it we
have wired in 2 pairs of ceiling speakers. The cables are terminated
inside a cupboard on a banana plug wall socket, so the speakers can be
driven by a local amp. I also want to run cable to node zero so I, or
anyone in the future, can choose to use an amp from there instead of one
in the kitchen.

If I run speaker cable from the speakers to the wall sockets, and more
cable from the wall sockets (connected to the same terminals) to node
zero and leave those cables unterminated, will that cause a sound
quality problem? (Will the sound "leak" out?) If so, is there a
way to
do this correctly?

Thanks
John
