Firstly sorry about the flame - was in a bad mood (a laptop is total
overkill BTW go for something cheap)

I must disagree with your comment though - Automation is quite possible
without computers!!!

In fact in most peoples experience on this list is that
....................

automation + computer + SWMBO = disaster.

go for embedded controllers / stand alone systems !
