The WebBrick docs descriobe its control system as a state engine.
A state machine is a logic system that can only be in one of a finite
number of states, with defined triggers that move the thing from one
state to another.
Its all probably a bit excessive in terms of this discussion, how it
works under the covers is not necessary to understand how to use it,
it is similar in concept to CBus logic.
A quick look at the WebBrick screenshot gives a good flavour of what
it can do, if I've guessed it right. Basically, when a trigger event
happens, which could for example be a digital (button press), analogue
(above a threshold, and/or below a threshold) or remote (incoming
network packet) occurs, a defined output action is taken. The action
include switching a digital output on or off, or on for a while
("dwell") or even sending network notification to another control
system or WebBrick.
