RE: Re: [OT] LED Dimming

I had a developer add some floor mounted LED's to a standard dimmed channel
on a Digidim 4 I installed just a few weeks back while I was off site. The
new fittings don't dim, but stay at full brightness until the channel level
falls below around 15% when they simply go off. Unfortunately I have no
details about the fittings or transformers used but in this case they seem
fine.

Question is not OT.

To dim LEDs properly requires a PWM controller. LED dimming is pretty
tied up in patents and patent litigation, so these aren't exactly in
over-supply.

But, if you have LEDs running off an unregulated supply with a proper
(as in magnetic, not electronic) transformer, such as an unregulated
wallwart PSU, and you plug it in across an incandescent load, it does
work. Without a parallel incandescent load its not likely to work at
all well.
