Sharing a device on a serial port.

Is it possible to / how can I...

...share a device on a serial port with two different applications
simultaneously?

Normally it seems that the first application locks out any others and
the serial port is seen as 'in use'.

The specifics is a Meteor CID on a direct attached serial port. I want
to be able to grab the incoming data by a xAP plugin and also by
COmfort's ACE Server.

Similarly can I do the same with a Lantronix MS100 with the port
redirector software running (I have a couple of other devices hanging
off these)?
