RE: [OT] Personal RF locator
I think that HP development (compaq had something similar in place at their
Richmond offices) was kinda rolled into the various RFID proposals.
I'm quite fascinated by the idea, but obviously privacy activists (I
hesitate to say "nuts", bacuse they might have a point) are
terrified by th=
e
idea of RFIDs in common use.
I actively looked at getting myself "tagged" a year or so back,
using the
same technology that my Dog has - it's very easy in principle, but more
tha=
n
a little costly. Whereas a dog can get tagged for about =A340, (even
includ=
ing
a smart tag that even relays the animal's temperature!) doing the same for
=
a
human will have you looking at the wrong end of 3-4 hundred pounds.
With RFID scanners becoming more easily available all the time, it would be
kinda cool to have the ultimate "am I home" occupancy
detection... :)
Ian.

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] Personal RF locator
Ok, this is one for the electronic experts out there.
I remember a couple of years back that HP developed their cooltown idea
tha=
t
had personal RF locator's which could be used to locate an individual
objec=
t
or person. They released circuit diagrams at the time but googling now it
seems that they have pulled the project.
I have the crazy idea that I'd like to make a few miniature RF devices,
muc=
h
like a car alarm key fob, which you can carry around the house with you.
Each device will have a unique code that will be sent say once a second
enabling a receiver to 'locate' each person.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of a circuit diagram I can
follo=
w
or idea's on how I can do this. Please bear in mind that I'm a little rusty
with the electronics side of things as I haven't picked up a soldering iron
since I worked at PACE 6 years ago but its all coming back to me as I read
up.
Cheers,
Jamie
