RE: [OT] Tips for when i go to New York

Oh another tip .. I don't know if it is still relevant though.

But at the airport when hailing a taxi they have a person there directing
you to get in taxis.

Make sure you know the price to your destination before you get in.

When I was last there the taxi tried to increase the price substantially
when we arrived at our destination - I had just got off the plane and did
not really pay attention to the original price quoted. However my
girlfriend
at the time lived there so she gave the Taxi driver hell - and we paid the
original price.

And the normal tourist tips - beware of pickpockets; keep your valuables
safe.

As long as you use a yellow cab, there's little chance of you getting
ripped off by a taxi driver - coping with their driving is another
matter.
Other thing to know when it comes to taxis is they're nowhere near as
good as London ones so know the street/avenue intersection of where
you want to go e.g. 49th and 6th for Radio City Music Hall.
The street number comes first and streets run east/west and avenues
north/south, streets also have an east and west depending on which
side of 6th av they're on.

As far as jet lag goes my tip is to adjust your body to the time zone
your going to as quickly as possible e.g. change watch as soon as you
get on the plane, for night flights eat before you fly rather than on
the plane, on your first day in the US stay awake until your normal
bedtime (US time), also use something like Nytol to stop your body
waking too early in the US, when you get back stay up all day if you
can (at most don't have any more than an hours kip)

If you can get hold of a pair of nose cancelling headphones it makes
the flight much easier too.

Finally enjoy NY's a great place and I miss it hugely (used to fly
there about 10 times a year in my previous job)
