Fw: Dimming LV transformers

We bought (ie the wife) some fancy lights that came with their own
transformers moulded into the housings - they were very obtrusive - like a
rampant rabbit in the ceiling.
These Aurora ones are perfect - CEF have stores all over the place.
or here?

Some transformers are just noisy when dimmed by cbus (or dimmed at all)
others are incompatible with cbus dimmers.
If it is incompatible (i.e. it is not compatible with leading edge dimmers
or it is beyond the capacitance allowable on cbus dimmers) then you are
looking at possibly damaging the dimmer, the transformer or both.
Basically disconnect it now as the damage doesn't always take place
immediately.
In either case if it is noisy there is little you can do about it but
replace it. Try and use a replacement from the Clipsal Cbus compatibility
chart. But using these doesn't necessarily mean you will get rid of the
buzz. I use a lot of IBL transformers (these come with a five or ten year
warranty depending on model), others use aurora or the osram mouse range.
A lot of the fittings with integrated transformers use cheap components so
replacing it is worth a try if you can get one to fit.
Are there any markings at all on the transformer? I would expect to see
some
markings at least.

Subject: [ukha_d] Dimming LV transformers
Hi all,
I've just installed a new light fitting for SWMBO - the old one was just
a regular mains fitting, whereas the new one has an integrated LV
transformer.
The light is wired to a C-Bus dimmer channel, and whenever it's switched
on, the transformer buzzes quite loudly.
Doesn't seem to matter what brightness the light is set to - the
loudness of the buzz remains the same - it only disappears when you turn
the channel off completely.
If I connect the light to a C-Bus relay, there is no buzz from the
fitting at all, so it's definitely down to the dimming.
What are my options here? I really need to have diming control, as this
is a hall light which comes on at low levels during the night.
The transformer has no markings on it (so far as I can tell) to indicate
whether it's suitable for dimming.
Is it just a case of replacing the transformer with a higher quality
one?
There is no access to the ceiling void above, so any replacement
transformer will need to fit in the top of the fitting where the current
transformer is mounted.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Regards,
John
