Hi Frank,

My guess is that it is probably because the vast majority of members very
rarely post any messages. There are hundreds of "lurkers" who
digest
information covering a wide range of topics.

All the lists I am on seem to be the same, only a small percentage of the
members post and those who do, tend to do so on a regular basis.

Therefore it follows that if the people posting in 2005 are mostly the same
people who were posting in 2001 ( give or take a few ) then the volume
would
probably be similar as you cna only type at a certain rate :-)

I notice that the list tends to be busiest during the day (presumably
people
using the list whilst they are supposed to be working) and it could be that
quite a few people can no longer actively take part due to their employers
restricting access to web/email. That was certainly the case before I left
BT, I had no access to personal email and web access was
monitored/restricted so by the time I got home in the evening and read the
list there was often little to reply to that hadnt already been answered
several times many hours earlier.

3 or 4 people posting similar replies within 10 minutes of a question is
OK,
but it looks silly when you post the same answer 8 hours later.... then
realise you have just done that as you read the next message which is 7
hours 50 minutes old!

Been there... done that :-(

Regards

Keith
