Andy,
You mentioned quite chassis fans - these are the best 80mm fans I have
seen...

(Thanks Paul, that=92s great.)

=20

So now I=92m off to look around for a HTPC with XPME and I=92ll get one of
=
the
Aero Flowers. Guess I=92ll have to look for quiet chassis fan=92s too.

=20

Just another thought though, I suppose I can=92t house the PC upstairs and
somehow distribute the video feed to the plasma screen downstairs? Like a
really long lead or something ?! (duh!)

(why do all my posts have double line spacing in them? It=92s not me doing
it!)

I've been running two water cooled top end PC's for 1-2 years now (and
upgraded components in this time). Water cooling is not bad but does
requir=
e
a fair bit of case space for the more efficient radiators/pumps. I also
found there is more maintenance involved (changing/topping up water) and
over time, the pipes can get brittle - which is potentially a disaster
waiting to happen! I have had a couple of accidents while changing water -
but these were my fault! ;)

I've now moved to Pentium D's and due to the huge amount of heat, decided
t=
o
move one of the machines away from water cooling to a Zalman Aero Flower:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Zalman_121.html

It's significantly better performing than the old water cooler (an older
Asetek waterchill) and it runs as quietly!

If you have the space, I'd really recommend the Aero Flower - I'm probably
going to buy another couple for other machines :)

Paul.

Hi all,

Strange, I was going to post similar - asking for a quiet PC.

Just one thing - I see that you can get water cooled PC's - does anyone
kno=
w
if that's worth a go?

Thanks

Andy

My 2 year old Shuttle XPC seems to have gone wrong - had a very quick power
cut then kept restarting with errors. I guessed it was the HardDrive - put
=
a
new 300gig in installed XP and still having problems so guess it the MB
thats shot.

I need to replace it with a similar machine, which is near to quiet
(shuttl=
e
is not totally quiet) as its my HTPC running MainLobby in my Lounge.

Has anyone got suggestions where to find a suitable machine preferably
around the =A3500 mark. I dont think it has to have massive processing
powe=
r
as it mainly file serves, though it does play DVD's to the Plasma, and via
the SVideo output to the tv distribution system. I guess i cant rob any
parts from the old machine as i guess everything is out of date.

Any advise appreciated.

Dean.
