RE: [ukha_d] X10 Question

If all the lights pickup up their feed from one point and all switches
feed=
to that one point (which would certainly be the most logical way the spark=
would have installed it), then all you need do is wire up the five momenta=
ry switches so that all the commons link together and all the switchLive
li=
nk together , this will then mean that any switch press will
"short" the co=
mmon and switchlive .Then put a single appliance module or dimmer module
at=
either the ceiling rose (or convenient location, I have mine in a cupboard=
in consumer units) or behind the switch if using the micro modules. The on=
ly issue with the micro modules is that you need a controller to initially
=
set the house/unit code (unless you only plan on having the one device). =

Doh, must read before sending, meant 10 downlighters not 10 dimmers.

Hi Marcus,
I had a look at the links you posted, I suppose the simplest way to think
o=
f
my "central corridor" lighting is one set of 10 dimmers with 5
single gang
switches. Each switch can toggle the lights on or off. I can get momentary
switches in MK logic plus to match the sockets so that is good. So another
question, would I need a micro module in the back of each switch or could
the five switches all be routed back, in a star topology, to something that
then applies power the lights? This would keep the cost down quite abit.=20
You tell it is the school holidays no support tickets in my queue to deal
with today.=20
Cheers

Sounds a similar layout to mine, 1 hallway downstairs + vestibule, 2
upstairs landings. Like you these were all wired originally with a
traditional wiring layout, but had multiple switches at each location
instead of your one. If I've understood you correctly then your
landings+hallway lights all come on or go off whenever any of the switches
are flicked ..yes?
If this is the case then I would suggest that you replace each of the 3
switches with a momentary press type. BQ sell one for about =A34-5 but it
d=
oes
have the word "press" on it, or you can use the clipsal ones from
letsautomate or Rob Hunter sells some nice ones that look exactly like
standard white switches.=20
I would "guess" that one of the lights is the "master"
i.e the one that all
the switches come back too, and the other two are simply spurred off this
one. If this is the case you can simply pop a micro module in there or even
an LD11 in a suitable box, in at that ceiling rose.

The X10 bit is a plug in module which I haven't bought yet.
I have two landings and the hallway, my sparkie cousin said as I wanted
fiv=
e
switches, any of which could flip flop the lights from their current
status=
,
that I should put it all one circuit. It's a bit wasteful as I'd have some
lights on upstairs when I only wanted to light the hallway but meant I
coul=
d
achieve my aim in a simpler fashion. It was then I thought about having the
alarm able to switch the lights on too and SWMBO liked that idea as we have
two young kids.
To cut along story short, I have gone down the full HA route as renovating
the whole house has cost enough but I still like the idea, in the next
hous=
e
maybe.

I think many of us have had similar issues with two(three/fourway)
lighting circuits. AFAIK there are no UK X10 light switches that can be
used as a direct replacement. Your options are ;
1) use a micromodule in the back box of each switch
2) rewire to have the light controlled via an LD11 module and then
replace the switches with momentary switches. This is the route I have
taken, upstairs and downstairs hallways have a single gang 3 switch
plate and the vestibule has a double gang 6 switch plate.
What alarm box are you using ?

Subject: [ukha_d] X10 Question
HI folks,
My burglar alarm has a X10 interface, I would like to able to switch on
the
landing and hallway lights if an intruder or fire is detected, my alarm
can
support smoke detectors as well.=20
So my question, is there an X10 module that would act like a 2 way or
intermediate switch that I could add to the essentially traditional
wiring
in the house? It is all being rewired at the moment so putting it in now
can be done when the wiring for this light circuit goes in.
Cheers
Jonathan
