Subject: [ukha_d] Home network
Hi all this si my first proper post and itsd to ask for advice lol.
I wish to install a home network, 4 pc's possibly a printer. Oh I
want a gigabit network. I have the cat 6 cables ready to be run, I
know im getting a gigabit switch from misco (nice and cheap and looks
gd) and I know I can get gig ethertnet cards for my pc's and built in
on my new pc. My problem is my Modem.
Firstly do I need some sort of router to plug in between an
ethernet modem and the switch to deal with the port forwarding or will
teh modem plug straight into teh switch , which will deal with the
port forwarding. If i do need another box inbetween i will just get a
small modem/router that will plug into the switch.=20
Secondly what ethernet modem would you suggest(if it does plug
straigh into the switch). I would like Upnp but the most important
afctor is that it is stabel whith multiple connections (the reason im
upgradind from my bt 205) as I woudl like to use programs such as
utorrent with out it repeatedly drooping the connection. Th eonly one
ive seen that looks ok is D-LINK 300T OR 320T, i knwo they hav ebad
reviews but so does every other oen i can find and as long as teh
firewall is diabled with telnet it seems to be ok. Oh an di definatley
dont want wireless on it
If I do need a modem/router then which woudl u recommend.
Well sorry for the extremley long post an help would be great. Oh and
my budget is approx 30-40 for a ethernet modem and 40-50 for a
modem/router.
