Depends what OS you're using.  For Linux there's a tool called
"bonnie"
that you could potentially use from one of the CD-based distributions
even if you intend to run a different OS.

Performance of RAID5 arrays is never particularly stunning in terms of
data transfer speeds, but if you care deeply about that then you don't
use RAID5.
