100V on BT Line ?

  • Subject: 100V on BT Line ?

Probably one for Keith D...

My father has just had his HomeHighway removed, and changed back to a
single
analogue line ( i think BT are doing this to all Home and Business Highway
users). I just bought him a new Phone/Fax/Answer/Scanner thing to replace
his old fax machine etc.

We had problems as soon as the removal was done with funny ringing and
hissing on line.

The good old BT service said no fault etc., but eventually got a real
person
and organised an engineer - he came and informed us that BT had left the
digital link in the exchange ? meaning that there was 100v on the line
instead of 50v.

Question is has the damaged the brand new multifax thing - my father has
been having great trouble sending stuff since they fixed the line.

Any suggestions/advice appreciated.

Dean.
