Fire hoods are used to satisfy Part E as previously mentioned and Part B
which relates to maintaining the Plasterboard fire resistant barrier for a
given time.

I purchase Hoods to fits downlights at around =A37.00 each - these provide
compliance with both parts - so he must have a lot of downlights :)

I cant see there is any particular issues with an existing property, and
certainly not if its a concrete floor above, or into a loft space...

Hmmm interesting. A guy I know has decided to have a home cinema install
done by a hi-fi company and they have bolted nearly =A3600 to the quote for
fire protection hoods above speakers and dowlightes in the cinema room to
(and I quote) "Comply with building regulations". The house nor
room is
anything special just a modern new build.
