It really depends on the location in the building and the overall design
of=
the building...

I have had to use 15mm fire rated (pink) plasterboard between my first
floo=
r and loft room because I would like to use the loft as a habitable room
in=
the future. Currently the Local Planning authority won't give me planning =
permission for this (different to Building regulations compliance).

If I make holes in this I need to have fire rated hoods or fittings to
main=
tain the fire proof integrity. Other ceilings which are not fire rated,
tho=
se below a 300mm concrete floor, do not need this level of fire proofing...

As I said each situation is different...

PS My plasterer has just turned up this morning a day early after the
Chris=
tmas break and I need to get some more rooms ready for him, no peace for
th=
e wicked....

LOL, short and sweet like my question ;-)

Hmmm interesting. A guy I know has decided to have a home cinema install
do=
ne by a hi-fi company and they have bolted nearly =A3600 to the quote for
f=
ire protection hoods above speakers and dowlightes in the cinema room to
(a=
nd I quote) "Comply with building regulations". The house nor
room is anyth=
ing special just a modern new build.
