Chris

All new properties have to comply with Part E - which relates to Noise and
the reduction of transmission of same.

It is most relevent in Flats/Apartments, and Party Walls. Most developers
build to Robust Standard Design which means that unless the hood is
certified by RSD they wont allow perforation of the ceiling which is an
integral part of their noise control design (together with floating floors,
Rubber matting, screeds etc.)

Most of the larger hood manufacturers we deal with Envirograf, Aurora
Lighting, Aico have RSD certification.

The Fire part is usually taken care of in houses by the type of joists and
location of downlights to them (speakers located close to joists are not an
issue). Flats are usually concrete floors so dont have the fire problem
either.

Dean.

Hi Dean,

Can you tell me more, I am just about to source a range for the new
Jamo range of in-ceiling speakers.

They do provide both accoustic and fire retardance, but i thought it
was fire rather than noise they where used for.
