The EAC Process can be slow, depending on its setup. At best quality
it will read each sector at least twice, and if it detects an error,
it will retry up to 82 times until 8 or 16 retries are identical.

This is due to the error correction on cds, scratches, and bad CD-ROM
drives.

EAC also reads data in secure mode from the CD-ROM by default at 4x

Me too, I use windows media player, with an MP3 plugin, rips quickly,
and I'm sure not very accurately
