Sharing a CCTV feed - is it possible

  • Subject: Sharing a CCTV feed - is it possible

I currently have a couple of CCTV cameras feeding into a capture
card on my PC that works as a webserver and DVR. All low budget e-
bay stuff, but does the job needed.

However what I now need to do is have the ability to monitor one of
the cameras on the TVs in the house, so need to modulate a feed from
the camera. What is the easiest way to do this?

I see two options:

1: buy a new video card for the computer with UHF out and use that
as the signal to the TVs. Problems with this are: cost of the card,
lack of slots in the computer (why are there never enough PCI
slots?), and finally the fact that the computer is used for other
stuff and presumably the UHF out may only show what is on the
computer screen - I mightn't be able to limit the signal to just the
DVR/webserver software.

2: split the signal from the camera before it reaches the computer
and put it through a modulator, leaving the computer doing what it
currently does. Problem - can you split the feed from the camera?
Do I need an amp or some other piece of kit to share the feed
between the modulator and the computer?

Any thoughts anyone?

TIA

Pete
