[OT] Firewire Power Saving

  • Subject: [OT] Firewire Power Saving

As some may be aware i've recently purchased a couple of 8 bay
firewire enclosures for dvd ripping

However when i try to use power saving with windows on these drives
it totally sucks :-(

Depending on the version of windows i use it shuts down the drives
when in use and/or won't wake them again

I guess there's a possibility the hard drives (all new) have a
firmware fault - but not much i can do about that

Phil said he's using a mini-mac ok for power saving so this seems to
be my only current option (unless i run a network cable to the
garage and forget about power saving) but before i shell out on one
just to act as a file server i was wondering if anyone has any other
ideas/suggestions please?

Also, if i go mini-mac, i assume it won't recognise NTFS formatted
drives? Not a big issue as i can copy the 1tb already ripped across
the network to the mac, but was just interested

Many thanks
Tony
