We just supplied a 64bit 3200 AMD (2.1 GHz) based PC, XP MCE 2005, 1GB
400M=
hz SDRAM, 250GB SATA2 HD, 128MB PCI Express 16 Graphics, 450W PSU,
Firewire=
, 8 USB, 7.1 Optical Out Audio, 10/100/1000 Ethernet, SLI. A very fast,
st=
able machine. No remote or keyboard for the MCE functions and no screen
bu=
t the basic building blocks of a powerful rig. Ideal for multimedia type
u=
sage you mention. I'm not aware of an Apple rig with that type of
power/fe=
ature set/upgradeability for under =A3600 although. Obviously not as
aesth=
etically pleasing as an Apple box, and not as small. No money was spent
on=
making this rig quiet and the fan on the graphics card makes it unsuitable=
for the living room. Just giving you an idea of what's possible and any o=
r all of the parts can be changed including the case.

Regarding box size we have been playing with Mini-ITX for some time now
and=
the specs of some mini-itx boards are quite impressive. Ability to take I=
ntel 775 up to 3.4Ghz, DDR2 SDRAM, 533Mhz FSB. We do custom paint jobs on
=
the mini-itx cases and they can look very smart. It's possible to do
somet=
hing with them for around the =A3550 mark.

Me thinks this is sounding too much like an advert so best contact me off
l=
ist if you want to know more.

We need a new PC at home, specifically for general house admin stuff
as well as my basic web site design and management.
=09
We also have a new digi camcorder so this is the driver for upgrading
my old P3 to a nice new machine with firewire so we can edit the
videos and burn them back onto DVD.
=09
The crunch - we want to spend as little as possible, sub =A3500 if
possible. Is the mini mac good enough to warrant moving over and
changing all our software etc?
=09
Is it compatable with our exsisting wifi, as we both have work
centrino laptops and is open or star office available for it? How much
would the other software be to buy for it?
=09
Sorry for far to many questions!
