RE: New Installations Trade
Lots of standardised protocols exist but all fail to make the job of
integrating all of the disparate services and applications as easy as it
should be. Some protocols have been hijacked by the major manufacturers to
the point that you still have to source all of your equipment from a single
vendor to ensure "proper" operation. EIB is less affected by this
but it
still suffers from requiring applications to be written from scratch by the
specialist commissioning engineer - similar problems and costs compared to
Crestron/AMX etx.

'already exists - EIB, Konnex - not uncommon in Germany, comparable in
cost to C-Bus, Siemens do various ovens & fridges etc for it, and there
are loads & loads & loads of devices for it ... for controlling
lights &
heat & blinds & for linking to computers, switches, meters, and
so-on.
As well as Siemens, Philps & ABB & Merten and about a dozen other
big
names are involved ...
