Re: Correct locations for outdoor CCTV cameras?

I will tell you where my 2 are, and the pros and cons...

The front door - on the lantern beside the door I placed a camera -
this one shows clearly the face of anyone at the door, and also can
pick up the numberplate of a car in the drive. Because of its
positioning I can see a fair view of the front of the house. Negative
point about this position is that because its pointed to one side of
the house, once a person passes I have no visibility of them. But that
is unusual.

My second camera is mounted about 3m up the wall at the back corner of
the house, and shows the whole back yard, including the back door.
Because of the wide coverage of this angle, it doesn't give much
detail, but I can clearly see if someone is there, and everywhere
they've been.

General problem with my cameras is that they are poor at night,
headlights tend to "blind" them, and you cant see much of whats
going
on.

If it helps, I've heard people recommend placing them away from the
house, pointing towards the house. This will give full coverage of the
grounds from only a fee cameras.

Personally, I am happy with the coverage I have, I would think in the
longer term about a couple more cameras though.
