Re: Re: Putting it all together and XAp in a box ??????
What this leads us to is something (box) that is
a) Completely Solid State - yep compact flash memory - no fans needed
b) Non microsoft operating system ie opensource or something else non
propriatary
c) Multiple RS232 Interfaces
d) Ethernet
e) Mutiple Relay outputs - more the merrier
f) Optional mouse/keyboard - just used for initial config
Others such as vga,usb and firewire are optional
OK what I have is this:
http://www.dpie.com/pc104/prometheus.html
with extra relay boards
Mounted in this:
http://www.dpie.com/pc104/cantainer.htm
I use Linux of course
Heating
Nu-Heat - Temp sensors 1-wire feed into one of the serial ports. No
Wall controls
Got the 16 Relay board which controls the actuator heads
Lighting
C-Bus - Control and feed back via the serial port using their api
Mobile
Nokia mobile connected via gnokii to serial port - use for alarm
set/notification, and future use diverting door phone via asterisk -
running on another PC
Humidity
1-wire humidity sensors control fans in wet areas - use the board relays to
fire
PIR Sensors - Will use c-bus ones but probably the board relays
PDA Interface
I've written PDA app - MS .NET that sends messages wirelessly to the
network, controls heating and lighting
This will always be work in progress but currently controls the
Heating and C-Bus
Same app also uses MS Media Player SDK to play music on the HTPC PC
via Denon 3805. Will feed to other rooms via relays soon.
dvds on the hard disk of course going through DScaler
Voice
I'll do a voice setup as well using the shure mixer - todo
Theres loads to do. IR to Serial Interface to do - but the work
involved as theres so many bits of kit I've got to IR may not be worth
it.
I have always looked at HA from the point of Heating and Lighting
should be rock solid and a saleable part of the property hence C-Bus
and HA controlled by the 'black box with fins'. Music/Video will
always change - Microsoft is acceptable
